    Susan has extensive experience in communication disorders and special education. With a California Teaching Credential and two advanced degrees—a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Communication Disorders—Susan is committed to helping students build literacy skills using evidence-based approaches. She specializes in working with individuals with dyslexia and other learning differences, helping them gain the confidence they need to succeed academically and socially.

  • Stephanie Strasser

    M.S. in Reading and Literacy

    Reading Specialist, Co-Founder of Redwood Coast Dyslexia Center
    With over 20 years of experience as an Elementary Teacher and a Cal Poly Humboldt Supervisor, Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge to our center. She has taught students from K-8th grade and is a certified Reading Specialist. Stephanie is highly trained in the LiPS program, Orton-Gillingham methods, LETRS, and she has earned the CATE Teaching Excellence Award for her dedication to education. She specializes in using a multi-sensory approach to improve reading skills for students with dyslexia. Additionally, Stephanie serves as a Teacher Consultant for the Redwood Writing Project, where she helps educators enhance literacy instruction and writing practices.

  • Maureen “Mo” Taylor

    M.Ed

    Literacy Coach
    With 30 years of classroom teaching experience, Maureen specializes in grades 3-8 and is trained in Orton-Gillingham, LiPS, and Phonographix. Currently, she provides private tutoring for students in grades 2-12 and is also a Literacy Consultant at Orick Elementary. Mo is passionate about guiding students to develop essential literacy skills through personalized and supportive teaching methods.

  • Angela Cotherman

    M.S., CCC-SLP

    Speech Therapist

    Angela Cotherman is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 15 years of experience in medical and elementary school settings. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Wyoming. Her career began in Humboldt County’s skilled nursing and medical facilities, focusing on adult and geriatric speech, language, cognitive, and neurological rehabilitation. Since 2013, she has worked as a school-based SLP with preschool through 8th grade students in McKinleyville and Trinidad. Her passions include stroke and cognitive rehabilitation, preschool speech and language, phonological awareness, dyslexia, and educating others about the SLP field. She has also taught at Humboldt State University and runs a small private practice in Humboldt County.

    Literacy Coach
    Cory is a Humboldt County-based Literacy Coach trained in the Lindamood-Bell Seeing Stars system, a research-based approach to helping students with dyslexia and other language processing challenges. With a background in teaching ESL internationally, Cory has worked with students of all ages, focusing on strengthening phonological and orthographic memory. He believes in the power of positive reinforcement and creating a fun, engaging environment for students to meet their literacy goals.

    Literacy Coach
    Rama is dedicated to fostering a love of reading in students. Specializing in literacy instruction, she is trained in Lindamood-Bell strategies, which are effective in helping students overcome challenges related to dyslexia and language processing. Rama works with a diverse range of learners, using fun, personalized, and evidence-based techniques to build reading and comprehension skills while also building students' confidence.

    Child and Family Therapist

    Melia Porter is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in child and family therapy. Specializing in working with young children and their families, she is also endorsed as an Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist. Melia is deeply committed to supporting children with learning differences and is certified in Theraplay, Child Parent Psychotherapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. She strives to foster strong connections, positive relationships, emotional growth, and self-confidence, creating a safe and welcoming environment for collaborative, healing therapy.
